Jerome was a mining town which was built on a hill which has a fault making it difficult to mine. With extensive blasting and digging, the town has slid down the hill, creating houses with their own unique character. Some of the houses are crooked, some have large cracks, and repairs have been extensive and unusual over the years. After producing over $600 million in gold, silver, and copper, Jerome’s mine closed in 1953. What remains is a fun, funky town of restaurants, tourists and artists with colorful, unique homes bult into the hill. This painting is looking down at some of those homes, a street of different color homes and rooftops, giving you a sense of the steepness of the hillside town of Jerome.
