I painted this a year ago or so in California. I liked the clouds, but felt that it was a little flat in the foreground. I found in my stack of plein airs today. I pulled it out and did some more work to it. I already had some violets on my palette. I wouldn’t normally have gone so light in the blue violet in the foreground, but once I put it down and like the stroke at the bottom I left it. The painting did need a little more light in the foreground. I had it all darker. It was too heavy and uninteresting.
